Apostilles and legalisations
Apostilles and legalisations certify the authenticity of official signatures and seals (stamps) for use abroad.
The cantonal chancellery can legalise documents signed by authorities, public offices, notaries or other authorised persons of the canton of Schwyz for use abroad.
Documents intended for countries that are parties to the Hague Convention are certified with an internationally recognised apostille. In all other cases, a legalisation is issued.
Submission of documents (originals)
In person at the counter
No appointment is required if you are submitting fewer than five documents. You may visit us during our opening hours.
If you require five or more apostilles or legalisations, please contact us in advance.
The document holder does not need to appear in person. You may authorise a person of your choice to submit the documents on your behalf. No written authorisation is required.
By post
Please send the original documents together with the completed order form or a covering letter stating the destination country, the return address and a contact detail (telephone number or email address).

Fees
- The fee is CHF 25.– per apostille or legalisation.
- For requests submitted by post, an additional handling fee of CHF 8.– plus postage costs will be charged.
At the counter, payment can be made in cash, by debit or credit card, by TWINT or by invoice

For translations, please contact the embassy or consulate responsible for the destination country or a professional translation agency.
