Domestic violence is not tolerated by the law and thus not by law enforcement. Prevention is also of utmost importance, because every case that does not escalate prevents a lot of suffering.

Domestic violence occurs when persons within an existing or dissolved family, marital relationship, or partnership (up to one year after the divorce, separation, or dissolution of the partnership or cohabitation) commit or threaten physical, psychological, or sexual violence. Anyone can be affected: women, men, children, young people and the elderly.

Domestic violence manifests itself in psychological, physical, sexual, economic and social forms. The following list is not exhaustive, because domestic violence takes many forms and ranges from hitting, locking up, threatening (with or without a weapon), insulting, excessive control, harassing, isolating, to depriving people of their livelihoods (e.g. money).

Information material and help are available at every police station.
